Passport news: ePassports could encourage illegal human trafficking in the UK.

ELECTRONIC passport gates could help people traffickers to smuggle individuals held under modern slavery into Britain.

Airport ePassport gates enable human trafficking of children and other vulnerable people, says the the chief inspector of borders and immigration.

For many holidaymakers, ePassport guides – which use face recognition to let you through passport control – are simply a convenient measure.

However, they could be used to bring victims of modern slavery into the country, as domestic labour or in prostitution. 
This is because of the lack of staff overseeing the ePassport gates compared to the traditional passport gates, where each traveller must talk to a Border Control guard.
