Virgin Atlantic overhauls economy fares, adds no-frills option.

Virgin Atlantic has become the latest global airline to tweak its economy fares, an apparent attempt to push back against expanding no-frills budget airlines and harmonize its offerings with partner Delta.

The British carrier announced on Wednesday that it will soon begin offering three types of economy fares, each coming with a different set of perks. One offers extra legroom and priority boarding while another pulls most frills except for food and drink.

The new fare types – “economy delight,” “economy classic” and “economy light” – will debut this spring. The company did not reveal details on pricing.

Virgin Atlantic's international-style Premium Economy seats will remain a separate cabin, but will be called simply "Premium."
