What to do and where to stay on a weekend break in Venice.

Hop on a gondola, gorge on fresh fish or simply soak up the sights of this Italian city that has a wealth of appeal beyond the famous waterways. 

When to go Venice is a desirable destination year-round thanks to an extensive programme of events. In February, revellers don masks to celebrate the pre-Lenten carnival. C

ulture vultures will want to visit the Venice Biennale for art, theatre, dance and music from May to November every other year, next in 2019. 

And for music lovers there is the Venice Jazz Festival in July. Several festivals are focused on the water and the Regata Storica in September is one of the grandest, with participants in Renaissance costumes gliding down the Grand Canal.
