QUEEN ELIZABETH, in 1972, made her first state visit to a communist country with her husband and daughter. That country no longer exists having been disbanded in the 1990s.

Queen Elizabeth, 92, has been the first British monarch in history to visit a number of countries on groundbreaking state visits.

She was the first to visit Russia, following the Cold War, and Japan, following the tense political history from World War I.
Yet she made her first visit to a communist country in 1972 with her husband Prince Philip and her daughter Princess Anne, who was 22 years old at the time.

The country she visited, however, no longer exists.
